PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2010 Planning and working within guidelines of the Action and Strategic plan is a natural process when you volunteer with the Dauphin & District Allied Arts Council at the Watson Art Centre. It is infinite, as one project or goal is reached another two are ready to be launched, three ideas are in the planning stages and more projects are being developed as possibilities.
The review committee has continued the work set out at the Strategic Plan and has been meeting very regularly to update the Constitution, Bylaws and Policies that govern the DDAAC. To ensure we are on the right track, the Executive and Administrator attended the next phase of Policy and Procedure training with Pat Bovey on December 10th in Portage la Prairie. As always the knowledge and suggestions from Pat have been priceless.
When you visit the Watson Art Centre you cannot help but notice the many changes that have taken place in 2010. The front entrance revitalization included a new sidewalk and landscaping, new entrance doors and new décor in several public spaces – refreshing those areas.
Our work with Derek Smith of Arts Stabilization Manitoba ended in December 2010, but not before ASM presented the DDAAC with a legacy donation of $10,000 invested in the Dauphin & District Community Foundation. This is in addition to the $20,000 in technological upgrades approved prior to that.
Working with the City on the back stairs project was a positive experience. Being able to access the experts at the City smoothed the process here at the WAC. We are encouraged with the cooperative working relationship with Mayor, Council and staff and once again thank the Council Representative at our Board meetings for passing along all pertinent information.
The reports contained in this document [our 2010 Annual General Meeting June 28, 2011 handout] are an example of the varied and hard working individuals, groups and organizations who share the dream and vision of fostering arts, culture and heritage in Dauphin and area. Please take the time to read and enjoy them.
